Final NFL mock draft roundup: Three teams trade into the top five for QB

With just two days until the 2024 NFL Draft on April 25 in Detroit, the experts are releasing their final mock drafts.

This is your one-stop shop for the latest predictions, including the top-five picks, players rising and falling, surprise selections and potential trades.

This week, NFL.com's Eric Edholm, CBS Sports' R.J. White and Pro Football Focus's 32 analysts are highlighted.

Pick No. 1 (Chicago Bears)

Edholm, White, PFF: USC QB Caleb Williams

This remains the biggest "no-brainer" of the draft. The Bears need a new quarterback after trading Justin Fields to the Steelers earlier this offseason and the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner should be the pick. Williams has thrown for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions from 2022-23.

Pick No. 2 (Washington Commanders)

Edholm: LSU QB Jayden Daniels

The fact is the only people who know what Washington is going to do are the Commanders themselves. Edholm believes "Daniels is the Commanders' man," and why wouldn't he after throwing for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on his way to being named the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner?

White, PFF: UNC QB Drake Maye

The debate between Daniels and Maye has been ongoing, and it will finally be settled in a couple of days. Although Maye, with just two years of starting experience, is a bit raw, he has a strong case himself after throwing for 7,929 yards, 62 touchdowns and 16 interceptions the past two seasons.

Pick No. 3 (New England Patriots)

Edholm: Maye

White: McCarthy

McCarthy has been rising up draft boards ever since he led the Wolverines to a national championship and threw for 5,710 yards, 44 touchdowns and just nine interceptions from 2022-23. White thinks McCarthy "should be an easy sell to owner Robert Kraft."

PFF: Daniels (traded to Denver Broncos)

Several quarterback-needy teams could try to trade up into the top five. PFF thinks it will ultimately be the Broncos who "get aggressive." Denver traded for Jets QB Zach Wilson on Monday, but it could be the team to move up if head coach Sean Payton has his eyes set on someone.

Pick No. 4 (Arizona Cardinals)

Edholm: McCarthy (traded to Minnesota Vikings)

The Vikings seem to be the favorite to trade up into the top five after acquiring their second first-round pick from the Texans earlier this offseason. With pick Nos. 11 and 23, Minnesota has the ammunition to move almost anywhere it wants.

White: Daniels (traded to New York Giants)

The experts name the Giants the third team that could potentially move up for a quarterback. Owner John Mara gave the team the green light if it is ready to move on from Daniel Jones. White believes New York is "a more appealing trade partner to Arizona than others sitting at No. 6."

PFF: Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

The Cardinals could stand pat and take the best non-QB of the draft class. Arizona needs to give QB Kyler Murray a true No. 1 wide receiver. Harrison Jr. would be that, and then some would be after posting 144 catches for 2,474 yards and 28 touchdowns from 2022-23.

Pick No. 5 (Los Angeles Chargers)

Edholm: Harrison Jr.

If Harrison Jr. is still available come pick No. 5, it's a no-brainer for the Chargers. Los Angeles needs to replenish QB Justin Herbert's arsenal after trading Keenan Allen to the Bears and watching Mike Williams join the Jets in free agency.

White: Harrison Jr. (traded to Arizona Cardinals)

White thinks the Cardinals could trade back up to land Harrison Jr. after trading down with the Giants. The Chargers may be unwilling with a glaring need at wide receiver, but White says Jim Harbaugh may want to "go in a different direction" anyway.

PFF: LSU WR Malik Nabers

If Harrison Jr. is gone, PFF believes Los Angeles will select Nabers, who some view as the best wide receiver in the class. Nabers reeled in 89 catches for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023.

Players on the rise

Edholm: Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. (No. 13 to Las Vegas Raiders)

White: Penix Jr. (No. 8 to Minnesota Vikings)

PFF: Penix Jr. (No. 12 traded to New England Patriots)

Penix Jr. has been mocked anywhere from a top-10 pick to a second-rounder throughout the offseason. However, it seems the experts think he's catching some steam heading into the draft. Penix Jr. has a bit of an injury history, but he's been able to stay healthy the past two seasons, leading the Huskies to a national championship appearance while throwing for 9,544 yards, 67 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

Players falling

Edholm: Alabama edge-rusher Dallas Turner (No. 15 traded to Chicago Bears)

White: Turner (No. 12 traded to Arizona Cardinals)

PFF: Turner (No. 16 to Seattle Seahawks)

Turner has been considered the top edge-rusher in this year's class for much of the offseason, but the experts think he could go in the middle of the first round. If that's the case, a team could get a steal in Turner, who registered 120 tackles, 22.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one touchdown since 2021.

Surprise picks

White: Michigan LB Junior Colson (No. 28 traded to Seattle Seahawks)

Inside linebackers are rarely taken in the first round. However, White thinks new head coach Mike Macdonald's previous relationship with Colson, who played a key role in the success of his defense at Michigan as a freshman, will be enough. Colson has been productive, totaling 256 tackles, 2.5 sacks and five passes defensed from 2021-23, but he's viewed as the third-best linebacker behind NC State's Payton Wilson and Texas A&M's Edgerrin Cooper.
