Rays' Jonathan Aranda hits IL with broken finger
Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

Rays designated hitter Jonathan Aranda will open the season on the injured list with a broken right ring finger, the Tampa Bay Times reported Thursday.

Aranda, 25, was injured while fielding a ground ball on Tuesday. He will have surgery to insert a pin into the finger and is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks, per the report.

He posted a .371/.421/.571 slash line this spring with four doubles, one homer and seven RBIs in 13 games.

Aranda was slated to begin the season as the Rays' primary DH against right-handed pitchers. He also saw time defensively at first, second and third bases and in left field during his first two seasons in the majors in 2022 and 2023.

Aranda is a career .212 hitter with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 66 games for the Rays, who originally signed the Mexico native in 2015.
