UNC misses on another major addition out of the portal.

Kentucky transfer Adou Thiero has committed to Arkansas. After spending two seasons in Lexington, decided to transfer. Thiero entered the portal before John Calipari left, but will now play for him again.

Time at Kentucky

Thiero’s two years in Kentucky saw a lot of growth, both in his height and game. When he picked Kentucky out of high school, his height was listed at 6’5. Now, Thiero stands at 6’8 and has continued to get taller.

During his freshman season, Thiero played 9.7 minutes per game, averaging 2.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.

Throughout Thiero’s sophomore year, his minutes jumped, playing 21.3 minutes and averaging 7.2 points, 5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

Rough Portal Stretch

With North Carolina losing Armando Bacot and Harrison Ingram, the frontcourt recruiting was going to need to be a major hit. So far, that has not happened. The Tar Heels missed on centers Oumar Ballo, Cliff Omoruyi, and Jonas Aidoo. Aidoo also committed to Arkansas. UNC has now missed on a top wing target in Thiero. Options continue to commit elsewhere with the Tar Heels having three scholarships still available. The top two rebounders from last season are gone, and their backups, Jalen Washington and Jae’Lyn Withers, averaged a combined 20.8 minutes per game.

The Tar Heels have a lot of work to do.
